My first visit at the Fantasia festival was when I was in high school, so about 11 years ago. Damn I feel old... And I did skip a few years, the usual crew I was going with did split up. Then we all got busy with work and things. But the past 3 years I've been going again along with some friends and coworkers.
Today, I got to the ticket boot 10 minutes after it opened. There was already a 2 hours line up. They had 2 line ups, one was inside and it had about 20 ppl. The rest of the crowd had to wait outside along Bishop street, I was told by a volunteer to go and wait outside in a not so respectful manner, but whatever I told myself that I was surely the 1000th person to ask some info. A friend came and join me to stand in the never ending line up. About 1 hour later, a staff member comes outside and say that already 2 movies are sold out (thankfully none of the ones that were in my list) but then he says 'CASH ONLY!!! and tickets are 10$!)
Now, most people did not expect the tickets to be cash only and it's ridiculous. We are in 2011, there are many ways to pay other than 'cash only'. Most important of all, most ppl buy a lot of tickets for themselves and friends or family member, so.... They tend not to keep 200 to 300$ cash on them, it's not safe. One man in front of us had very loud arguments with the staff. I couldn't agree with all the 'F bombs' but he was right, they should mention it loud and clear that they only take cash and no debit/credit card AT THE START of the 2hours line up. Not when you get to the ticket booth.
Well, I got my tickets and I hope that the movies will be enjoyable.
