Fantasia talk: Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame

Yesterday night I went to see: 'Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame' at Fantasia.
I did arrive 1 hour before show time and still, it seems to get worse and worse each years... The endless line up. But thankfully I had 2 friends inside reserving places for me and a friend.

The movie was 122minutes long, and its length was just fine, it's neither an excellent movie neither a bad one. Detective Dee is a mysterious, agile and clever man. It's all about him resolving a mysterious case about people instantly bursting in flames. Made me think of Parasite Eve somehow. But nah, it has nothing to do with mitochondria. And the main thing is in the movie, people are not sure if the mysterious self-combustion is some kind of divine intervention or if there is a killer behind it all. And I thought that I wasn't too sure myself until half of the movie, so they built that up pretty good. Because in Chinese movies, it' common for fantastic of magical things to be explain by something illogical. And it's something i like about those type of movie, you cannot take it too seriously and I like it.

Was this worth my 8$? I can say that it could have been a good rental but you cannot have that fantasia-crowd feeling at home... And then again you don't have Daniel at home to turn the lights off. So yes, worth the 8$!
