Silent Hill Marathon: SH1 finished.

So I have started my Silent Hill marathon.
I have played and completed the 1st one.
Boyyyyyyyyyyy..... it did not age well.

What made me rage were the long long long loadings, the controls..... were driving me insane! Its like playing drunk, but you are not... And the often forced camera angles they hurt my eyes and brain. Ah.... the things devs were doing at that time... On top of it, I got the worst ending, the Bad (not the Bad+). I felt bad but at the same time, I've had put the game on easy (knowing it would surely rank me down) and I have played it with people watching, so I was distracted half of the time.

But I like Silent hill, the town and the overall feel. The story is pretty cool and I wished it would have been deeper for this 1st one. When you go through the game, the main character is confused, Cybil is confused, Lisa is half zombie and clueless... and seems they only realize what is going on in the last 20 minutes of the game, like if a light bulb just got light up.

Sometimes backtracking is nice to have in games, but in the school and in the hospital and then in 'No where'.... I was getting a little fed up. 1st foor! Ok go to the 2nd floor, aigh back to the 1st, then the 3rd and back on the 2nd again! No.... just no, do it once but don't repeat it in all places i'm visiting.

What is cool is the 'Silent Hill effect' you know, what you see is not really what it seems and vice versa.
Like in the school, the corridor changes after you enter and exit a few times the bathrooms. Inside the hospital, you go on the elevator and there are 3 floors. You go do some exploration, you come back to the elevator, now it shows 4 floors, that's pretty cool!

So yeah, finished SH1, sorry to have let you die Cherryl : (
Off to SH2 !

  1. If I had not watched you play it for hours, I'd have probably been all nerd raging on you for bashing my fond memories of SH1, but, really, I agree, lol.

I guess what disappointed me most were how... normal the monsters were compared to what comes later in the series. If you don't feel like you don't want that thing to be alive less than 10 meters away from you, it's doing it wrong.

Either it was the lessened horror effect of playing it together with you, or the game really did age badly, or maybe it's both? Still was nice to get back to it :D
