Recently I have been nostalgic a tad and asked myself what did I like so much in my favorite games. My favorite of all still remains FFVI. Then started to play again and find out myself why I liked it so much.
First of all I like stories, from the start (even thought it's a bit rushed) I really wanted to know why was Terra controlled by the empire and then wanted to know what was the War of magic about. The characters are also charismatic and each have their own personality, which is pretty cool for sprites huh!? And as a friend mentioned to me yesterday, that Final fantasy isn't about young boys looking like chix and being crybabies. You get characters who are older and even Cyan is pimping with his mustache.
And a thing I like is to be able to 'see' a story through different characters' eyes. Like that picture about, when Mog asks you to 'choose a scenario'. You get to see How Locke makes his way through an empire controlled town and how he meets Celes. You also get to find out what happens with Sabin and how Terra and her group go to Narshe. All of the scenario must be played to continue but you can also choose which one you want to play first. I think this is pretty cool, it's not something you see a lot in games.... In fact, I can't remember a recent game that had that....
Maybe.... Heavy Rain? I'm not sure I remember it all but I'm pretty sure at some point you had to play the scenario of two of the main characters. Some people hate this game, some people preferred not to 'call it a game'. I liked it, but then again that's a different story.
I'll keep playing FFVI for now, as well as finishing Skyrim (yes yes i know I'm late).
And then I have a stack of games I didn't play yet on my bookshelves.
The more games the better!
Cheers
It's funny...every time I hear FFVI I'm reminded of the age old debate. Which was better? IV or VI?
ReplyDeleteI fell firmly in the camp of IV which was my favorite FF game, but loved them both. I did find however, that the story of IV grabbed me much easier than VI. I think part of it for me was that VI had that modern feel with the tech integrated into the world where IV was firmly old school fantasy.
Well..now that i've gone on a tangent... ;)
I think both are great games : )
ReplyDeleteFFVI got me more than FFIV, but I think i'll replay that one as well.
I find it interesting to replay an old game and see how much memories of it are actual facts. Sometimes you remember things and it was more how you remember it and now what actually happened.
So I'll put FFIV on my list to play next : D
