MMO: Tera online closed beta

Most of people that knows me are aware that I'm a mmo fan. A friend had mentioned to me a few times that I should try 'Tera', a mmo developed by Bluehole Studio in Korea and published by EnMasse. So me and a few friends all went together this weekend to test the game which is still in closed beta.

Races and character creation
There are seven races: 'Aman, Baraka, Castanics, Elins, High Elves,Humans and Popori. Of course there are 'Racial Traits' but since you will play a long time (in theory) with your character in your face all the time, better choose something that you are visually happy with yes? So I did make a Human, a High elf, a Castanic and an Elin. I did find the character creation very restrictive, I might be picky but if you compare it with everything that is out there... This one is minimalist. As often the eyes color is tied to a hairstyle, not convenient and well there are not many different hairstyles. Also for skin and hair color, the palette is all more of the same, i think they would gain more points here by adding more variations and throwing more colors in as well. I cannot go over the fact that I really want to make an Elin with bunny ears but I've found the Elin face to be very disturbing (my opinion here, I share). They have the bone structure and the face features of a 5 years old child and yet their main 'armour' is mostly all lingerie. I don't know, I was quite comfortable with the character so ended up playing a castanic as my main character (that you can see in the picture above)

Combat
I cannot say much as I didn't take my character very far yet, so I had very little abilities to test. Somehow the combat as a different feel as you don't have to target the enemies to attack, so you can just rush in and it almost has a 'hack n slash' feel. I did play warrior the most and it was quite powerful even at low level. I did a bit of pvp (with ppl of all classes at same level) and I did not lose once and it has nothing to do with player skills but with balancing, but it's still early for that. Combat to me feels fun, I'll talk more about it when i do play a bit more.

Art
Tera is pretty, I don't think anyone would say otherwise. The environments are huge and you can tell that there was attention given to every little details. I'm the explorer type so I did walk everywhere and picked flowers and threw myself in falls, rivers and ravine and I couldn't find one ugly spot really, I would totally picnic anywhere in Tera.

Story
There wasn't much here besides the intro movie explaining a tad how the world of Tera was born out of love, awww! Two titans/Gods fell in love and during their sleep dreamnt of a world and that dream actually took form and is now called 'Tera'. And somehow of all living things that sprouted on Tera, some evil beings imprisoned the sleeping gods and are wiling to do anything to destroy Tera. So mainly you are fighting alongside with other races to prevent evil from destroying Tera. But if they do destroy Tera, how and where would they reign? Hey, who knows? It does feel a little clunky to me and am hoping to see something more solid as I progress within the game, I hope.

Next closed beta will take place next weekend, so probably I will be there to try other classes, explore places I didn't see, get one character to the cap level(which is currently 24 I believe) and also try more Pvp to have a clearer opinion on combat.

Cheers
